Lyn may y sus hijas2/20/2023 ![]() ![]() Of course GRRM assumes via his in-universe author that two women being together in a virtually entirely male military camp would be fucking because not only does F&B need to eroticize every woman and female child it can get its hands on but also GRRM doesn't understand that women can be friends without being employer/employee, actually enemies, and/or sexual partners. I've talked about this problem before, and I also highly recommend "On Account of Her Womanhood" on this topic F&B turns the dial up to 11 with respect to the author's already-established problematic patterns of writing female characters. Too, while I might understand (if not excuse) Sabitha's non-development as a character were F&B well-written elsewhere, especially with respect to its female characters (or non-characters, as it were), this simply is not the case. The former is explicitly based on nothing - literally, we never see her do anything that clearly shows her being merciless or grasping - while the latter is coming from a source the author has already tried very hard to emphasize often exaggerated and/or outright invented the truth to make it more colorful, erotic, and/or entertaining. who would sooner ride than dance, wore mail instead of silk, and was fond of killing men and kissing women". The most we get in terms of characterization is Gyldayn calling her "merciless and grasping", followed by Mushroom calling her a "sharp-featured, sharp-tongued harridan. Gyldayn - which is to say, GRRM - focuses solely on her (specifically masculine) inclination to fighting and her sexuality she is only interesting to the author (in-universe as well as out of it) to the extent that she is sleeping (in every sense of the word, so the book presumes) with Alysanne Blackwood or "killing men". ![]() The problem for me (and this is far from a unique problem in F&B) is that Sabitha just isn't a character. ![]()
